Art Direction – Japanese Minimalist

This minimalist Japanese themed interior was a quick creation in Maya to demonstrate a given creative brief.  A highly recommended first hard surface project for any 3D modeler.

  1. Source for one or more good references.  Eg.

  2. Determine the overriding look and style. Eg. a “true” minimalistic stylization can have 90 degree angles and no texture gain or bump, with flat lighting.  Instead, I went for a more chunky look, with a light application of bump and wood grain, and added an ambient occlusion layer for the “Pocoyo” toy finish.
  3. After Effects CC Lightburst added and smoke from detonationfilms.com to composite the render.
